I've been having tons of fun creating color schemes for my boards/forum. The first one was based on a skin that came with a forum I created at Proboards. Instead of trying to fix it up, I found an image that fit perfectly with the color scheme the forum came with. The color was too dark for my tastes, so using the image I did lighten it a bit, and I changed the title color to a blue/grey color. That was about my only addition to the skin.

Since the image fit perfectly with the color scheme, I kept those colors when I moved to Runboard. I was a bit reluctant to play with the coding, but I couldn't not do something.

The Illusive Muse

That went really well, so I thought maybe I should try my hand at color scheming this board. I used HTML Color Picker to do it. (Scroll down page.) Basically, I found a color I really liked, and then I just moved the mouse around within the one box, picking my other colors from it.

I had tried picking random colors and throwing them together, but that went horribly wrong. Staying within the same color worked much better for me. And I love the finished result. I cannot believe I designed this board's colors. I always thought I had no skills for this sort of thing. And that is why I haven't really gotten busy and learned HTML/CSS. Why bother if I didn't have any skills?

Anyhoo. I _had_ to redesign my old 'Illusive Muse' forum and turn it into a Guest House to use along with my Runboard boards. Like if someone wanted to comment, but didn't want to register, or was having trouble logging in. I used my Runboard test board to design the look I wanted, and then set it up for my Proboards Guest House forum. I had a background image I liked, and used it to pick the colors.

Well, after that I was hooked. I needed to do another board, and I just so happened to have one. It was a board I was holding on to, but will most likely end up deleting. It's a sister-board to Whoosh! Whoosh has a game board called, 'Whoosh! Island.' I set up forums for it on the Whoosh board, but also created a separate board for it too. I don't know which site the game will be played at. If at Whoosh, the WI board will be deleted. If at WI, then the forums at Whoosh will be used for something else. Or it could be played on the Whoosh! Island Proboard's forum.

I found images for the header that Lesa fixed up and put in place. (She's my go-to for CSS/HTML & image help.) I found a site online that would give me the codes to the colors of an image, and tried it to get the colors, instead of eying it on my own.

I love it. And I'm digging in my heels not to create more boards just to design them. Right now I only work on the colors, and I think I should learn more HTML/CSS before I go about creating all sorts of themes. Then I can turn loose the reins and create to my hearts content.

I only wish I'd known how much fun all this designing could be. Maybe I'd be a third as good as Lesa by now. Okay, maybe a fourth as good. An eighth?
